Coming Soon: Riverfront Park at Las Colonias
If you’ve driven down Riverside Parkway along the Colorado River lately, you’ll see quite a bit of construction just east of the amphitheater — the finishing touches of Riverfront at Las Colonias Park — a 140-acre city park with a 15-acre business park focused on the outdoor recreation industry embedded within it. The park will include a festival area, dog park, a series of ponds for SUPs, a boat ramp and a whitewater recreation area.
Anchor tenant Bonsai Design, a company that specializes in aerial canopy tours, is breaking ground on their 20,000-square-foot headquarters. Once their headquarters is complete, they’ll build a zipline over the Colorado River beginning at Eagle Rim Park and ending in Las Colonias park. RockyMounts, a Boulder-based company that manufactures bike racks, announced their relocation to Grand Junction last summer and will be joining Bonsai in the park.
With the Colorado River Trail snaking through the park, and immediate access to the Colorado River, this is the perfect area for a restaurant and retail area that will fill out the western edge of this new “river district." This project transforms the formerly blighted riverfront area into a center for commerce and recreation that the whole valley can enjoy.
