Gear Hub: Kora Neema Ultra-Lightweight Baselayers

Kora was one of the first companies to introduce me to the benefits of wool for active outdoor endeavors. Their Shola baselayers have become a go-to for me to grab before running, hiking or ski touring in the Colorado mountains, so when Kora released a new ultra-lightweight baselayer collection this past spring I couldn’t wait to do some testing throughout the summer season.  

The Neema collection is created with a soft blend of 20% yak wool alongside 40% merino and 40% recycled Coolmax polyester. The combination of these fabrics creates a lightweight, durable and breathable garment that has kept me comfortable while moving during cool mornings and as the temperature starts to rise with the sun. Even once I start to sweat, the blend ensures effective wicking and quick-dry performance. The fabric combination actually manages to keep me cozy when the outside temperature is chilly and to keep me cool on warm and sunny days. Built-in 40+ UPF sun protection means you can slip on the long-sleeve for extra protection.  

The blend used in the Neema pieces is soft like cashmere yet stretchy and flexible for active endeavors. While the baselayers are machine washable, the combination of yak and merino provides natural odor resistance, so you can keep wearing them for extended time in the backcountry or keep them in your bag for multiple yoga classes. 

I find myself reaching for my Neema long sleeve crew all the time, from my desk in the office to when I’m lounging at home or outside playing on singletrack. The collection includes three styles for men and women: tank, short sleeve crew and long sleeve crew, and a relaxed-fitting hat. The pieces are currently available in the colors of light grey and sky blue.
