Emerald Mountain Gravel Grinder

At the heart of Steamboat Springs, the Emerald Mountain Gravel Grinder serves up expansive views to cyclists from April to October each year. This 27.9 mile loop is suitable for riders with fitness and skills from intermediate level to the most seasoned cyclists. With a maximum elevation of 7,765 feet and a total ascent of 2,120 feet, there is a way for almost any biker to attain the challenge they seek.
The early miles of the trail guides riders at a steady incline, smoothly in and out of flora and aspens. Views of ranchlands, valleys and even downtown Steamboat can be seen as elevation is gained. Once cyclists ride about two-thirds of the trail, it becomes steeper and more technical. For a more challenging ride, try the loop in reverse and climb up Hilton Gulch. This gravel loop provides just that, as well as an adventure accompanied by breathtaking views. It is well worth the time, even if there is a little dirt along the way.
Doctor Park
Crested Butte
Doctor Park is a renowned downhill ride in Crested Butte with a world–class descent. This trail ascends 2,702 feet before traveling down a double track trail with scenic mountain views. Doctor Park trail welcomes intermediate and advanced riders to climb to the top of the trail before the steep downhill switchbacks.
After reaching a grassy meadow, riders can expect the fun to begin with the downhill experience ahead of them many technical sections of roots and rocks. The full fun of this ride comes when the trail eventually smooths out and riders have three miles of flow-filled descent where they can ditch the brakes! This 20–mile ride has a maximum elevation of 10,902 feet with an average grade of 5%. Doctor Park can be completed as a loop if started in the North Bank Campground or shuttled by finding parking along the road after turning off the Doctor Gulch trail.
Mount Evans Road
Clear Creek County
Mount Evans is known for being the highest paved road in North America. Located in Clear Creek County, this Rocky Mountain gravel road is full of breathtaking views and challenging switchbacks as you climb up. Mount Evans Road cycling adventure begins in Idaho Springs and is a 48–mile ride that offers an overall elevation gain of 5,540 feet, accompanied by views of glacier-cut valleys, a horizon of the Rocky Mountains and frequent wildlife sightings. Once you reach the peak, you can refuel with the mountain goats and bighorn sheep that graze along the rocks. Since this road becomes narrower as it climbs, the best time of day to complete this ride and to avoid vehicle traffic is in the mornings or on weekdays.
