Western Colorado Pediatrics: A Community Focused On Compassionate Care
As healthy children grow into healthy adults, it’s imperative that every child receives the best possible care and support on their individual paths of well-being.
At Western Colorado Pediatrics (WCP), the focus is on creating a warm, supportive and fun atmosphere where both staff and patients feel valued and respected.
“The team operates with a strong sense of purpose,” shares Dr. Megan Stinar, WCP pediatrician, “knowing that every day we have the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of children and their families. This shared mission fosters a culture of collaboration and camaraderie, where respect and teamwork are at the core of everything done.”
The office environment is lighthearted and fun, adds Dr. Stinar, and this positive energy extends to the leadership team, who lead by example. Managers work side-by-side with staff, guiding them to reach their full potential while ensuring a healthy work-life balance. Through regular recognition and "kudos" for a job well done, a resilient and positive team spirit is nurtured.
Making Visits Comfortable for Families
WCP takes extra measures to make each visit as comfortable as possible for both children and their parents. The trauma-informed staff creates a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where families feel supported from the moment they walk in. Whether communicating with toddlers, teens or their parents, the skilled team is adept at addressing the unique needs of every age group.
Attention is also given to the details that make a difference. Whether it’s using preferred names and pronouns or engaging kids with comforting distractions like singing songs during vaccinations, efforts are made to alleviate any anxiety and make visits a positive experience.
“The goal is to provide exceptional pediatric care while ensuring that families leave feeling reassured and supported,” says Dr. Stinar.
Commitment to Community Engagement
Western Colorado Pediatrics is deeply invested in the local community, actively participating in numerous outreach programs and initiatives that benefit families in Mesa County. The clinic proudly supports local efforts such as Girls on the Run, WeCan! Mesa County, the Community Food Bank, Kids Aid Backpack Program and Stuff the Bus.
Earlier this year, WCP sponsored and participated in the Girls on the Run 5K, an event that encouraged over 850 girls in the Grand Junction area to build confidence and connect with their community. In July, the clinic held its third annual Kids Aid Backpack Program Fundraiser, donating $5 for every well-child check completed. The event raised $5,460, helping to bridge the weekend hunger gap for kids in School District 51.
Additionally, WCP contributed to the Stuff the Bus campaign, ensuring that children are equipped with the school supplies needed to start the year ready to learn.
Meet WCP’s Newest Providers
This year, WCP is excited to welcome four new providers who bring a wealth of experience, compassion, and dedication to the practice:
• Dr. Sarah Zhou: With several years of outpatient experience in Chicago, Dr. Zhou’s calming presence and exceptional listening skills have quickly made her a favorite among patients. Her expertise spans a wide range of pediatric care, and she excels at creating a comfortable and reassuring environment.
• Dr. Madison Keenan: A recent graduate from Children’s Hospital Colorado in Denver, Dr. Keenan has quickly built strong relationships with patients and families. Her proactive approach to preventative care and her compassionate demeanor make her a valuable asset to the team.
• Jordan Knickerbocker, NP: Formerly a pediatric RN at St. Mary’s Hospital, Knickerbocker worked closely with WCP during her nurse practitioner degree. Known for her kindness and expertise, she brings a wealth of experience to the practice.
• Nicole Morgan, PA: The newest addition to the team, Morgan recently graduated from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN. Her enthusiasm for pediatrics and dedication to providing excellent care have already made a strong impression on both staff and patients.
Each of these providers brings fresh perspectives and unique skills, ensuring that WCP continues to deliver the highest level of care to the community.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Western Colorado Pediatrics aims to continue growing and evolving to meet the needs of patients. Expanding mental health services and introducing new initiatives to reduce vaccine-related pain and needle phobia are among the top priorities. The dedication to advocating for children's health and well-being in the community remains unwavering, with continued focus on valuing every staff member and maintaining high standards of care.
In the coming months, WCP will be offering flu vaccine clinics and RSV vaccines for newborns. Several community events are also lined up, including a winter clothing drive for Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley and a holiday toy drive for the Joseph Center.
